A Kansas bow hunter's peculiar whitetail buck haul from last year may be the world's fourth largest non-typical whitetail deer, if it gets accepted by the international non-profit org that looks over big game records in North America.
Brian Butcher, 38, shot the large buck in October 2019 in Chase County but the deer's rack was finally measured by the Boone and Crockett Club on Friday, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports.
The Boone and Crockett Club is an international non-profit conservation organization that monitors native North American big game records.
Butcher's massive whitetail had an unofficial net non-typical score of 321 3/8 inches, beating the previous Kansas state record by 57 1/4 inches.

'When I first saw it, I thought it had some branches or grass tangled up in its antlers,' Butcher explained when seeing the 67 scorable points on the deer. 'But when I looked at him with binoculars, I realized it was all antlers... I was in complete shock.'
Getting together with a friend, Butcher tried to score the deer himself.
'We added it up five times because it didn't make sense,' Butcher stated. 'We had it at 341 inches gross, and 316 inches net.'

It took a team of measurers nearly five hours to score the deer on January 3. They determined that the pending net non-typical score was 321 3/8 inches.
Due to the rack's high ranking, it will need to be scored again by a panel of measurers at the Boone and Crockett Club's award ceremony in 2022.
